My role as a physiotherapist is to work with you to understand how you can achieve optimal health. I can help you understand possible causes for why you may be experiencing pain or what may have led to your injury as well as provide you with the plan you need in order to become pain free.
It is not okay to live in pain. In most cases of orthopedic or musculoskeletal pain, physiotherapy can help. In your physiotherapy sessions you will be educated about your injury or condition and we will together work towards your goals while getting rid of your pain and allowing you to return to your desired activities.
Massage Therapy involves the treatment of muscles and joints through hands-on
treatment techniques. Some of these techniques that can be part of a treatment session include
Swedish Massage, fascial release techniques, trigger point release, and manual stretching
techniques. Massage therapy treatments can help to reduce your pain, maintain movement in
your joints, and decrease tension and restrictions within the soft tissue.
Massage therapy can be beneficial for multiple injuries and complaints. Whether you
need to decrease some tension in the shoulders or back, have chronic headaches, or are
experiencing muscle soreness from trying a new activity, massage therapy can help. A typical
appointment will begin with discussing your aches, pains, and treatment goals. Manual
massage techniques will then be used to help alleviate these areas of complaint and move you
towards achieving your goals. Near the end of each treatment, simple home care will also be
provided so that you are always a part of your treatment.
Yes. We love to make your experience as seamless as possible. If your insurance company allows for direct billing we will do that for you.
You do not need a referral to attend either physiotherapy or massage therapy. In some circumstances, insurance may require a referral from your doctor in order to cover the cost of the appointment, but this is becoming more rare. A quick phone call to your insurance company will help you to understand if you need a referral to be reimbursed.
It is recommended to come in comfortable clothing or bring a t-shirt or shorts to change in to.
A physiotherapy assessment will last approximately 60 minutes long. During that time you will have time to tell your story, we will go through some movements to figure out what's going on and you will leave with a plan which will include access to an app where you will find your individualized exercise program.
Cupping therapy is a modality that can be implemented in a massage treatment alongside Swedish massage techniques. Cupping will address both blood and lymphatic circulation at the targeted area. This allows for more oxygen and nutrients to be delivered to the treated area and for fluid to be flushed out. It can also help loosen soft tissue and break down scar tissue in the body. Since cupping and manual techniques can be done simultaneously, this allows the RMT to treat multiple areas of the body more efficiently than doing Swedish Massage alone.
During a cupping session, you may feel a “skin pulling,” "suctioning," or “burning” sensation that will subside after a few minutes. After the treatment, you may feel tenderness where the cups were applied that is similar to soreness you would typically feel after a Swedish massage treatment. You may also have cupping marks where the cups were applied. These marks are not bruises; rather, they are areas where breakage in blood vessels occurred which leads to an increase in blood flow to promote healing. These cupping marks may last anywhere from a few minutes to up to 14 days after treatment.
